What are your thoughts on advertising your own business on your car?

Those that work all over town and travel a lot already do that. Those of us who work at home and rarely go anywhere, it's not useful.

And, as always: it depends on whether that's where your best potential customers will find you. If so, then you make it a point of doing it; if not, then you save your money for something more effective.

It makes sense for some businesses. For example those businesses that need to go inside people's homes should have marked vehicles so you can identify them easily.
In terms of marketing it is a good idea for certain industries (printing, for example would be one).

As a graphic and web designer I would not have any use for it.

I believe there are good points in the answers above. For trades people, it probably works really well. As a general rule, advertising for free does not provide a tremendous amount of results, but any results at all may make it worth it.

Advertising on your car will get you plenty of repeated exposure -- it's good for getting your name out there so people get familiar with it. But it has to be done right. If you're a plumber, definitely brand your work van... if you're a software programmer working out of your home, there's no need to put decals on your sedan.

All depends on what type of business you have.

Every single landscaper, HVAC tech, plumber, all advertise on their vehicles.

Thanks guys, that makes sense. We may advertise my wife's photography services on our car but not so sure about my forecasting company. If I do it for forecasting... then it'd be simple just to make people see the name.

I think it adds to branding of your business, people remember.

When you advertise on your vehicle, your vehicle becomes an extension of your business... As does your driving. And there are millions of frustrated drivers out there just looking for ways to vent their frustrations. If you accidentally cut someone off, that's gonna be a bad business review. If you forget to use your blinker, that's gonna be a bad business review. Driving too slow in the left lane, that's gonna be a bad business review.

I was just going to post the same thing as BizAdvisor!

I am always very conscious of my actions whenever I am driving the company truck because my driving is a reflection back on my business. In your own unmarked car, you are anonymous -- not so when you are driving a mobile billboard!
