    There are a lot of things to take into consideration when deciding on a flyer design.
    Here is a list of mistakes to avoid on Print Flyers:

    Cramming content onto flyers… just because you can.
    Stretching low-resolution images to fit.
    Failing to include pertinent contact information.
    Dropping the headline or using ineffective copy.

    Also want to add that I've gotten pretty good response distributing flyers door to door by myself or with an employee on days that I don't have jobs lined up. Even though I never knock, people get a chance to see you and ask questions if they want. I print out a basic friendly greeting and description of what we do on a half sheet of paper (black and white) and staple my business card to the upper left corner and put it in the newspaper slot or roll it up, secure it with a rubber band, and attach it to the door handle. You can't go into the actual mailbox in the U.S.. Also, be careful not to put it anywhere where it can fly onto someone's lawn as that's just going to turn into litter and upset people.
