Default Need some changes to the Quick Reply feature

I can't tell you how many times I've typed a reply to a thread in the large quick reply box, then clicked on the large blue button just above it labelled "Reply to Thread" and subsequently lost my entire post. (Because that button isn't the one to post a quick reply.)

Can that be fixed? Any of these are acceptable solutions:

    disable quick reply
make the quick reply text box smaller so that it's post button is visible on the screen at the same time
Move the quick reply post button to the top next to the reply-to-thread button
add some whitespace between the reply-to-thread button and the quick reply textbox so they don't look like they go together

I'm open to other ideas also.

When I'm trying a long one, I always do a quick copy of it before I press save or publish. That way if something happens, or I took too long and got logged out, all I have to do is paste.

Doubt we're going to be able to move the buttons. The one for quick reply is labeled "Post Quick Reply" and it's right under the box where it's supposed to be. It's kind of a universal set up on V-Bulletin forums.

yeah but it's pale gray and at the bottom of a VERY large text box. I know its down there and what it's for but I'm a touch typist and often after I'm done typing I will automatically click the dark blue button that's just above the text box, and also in my field of vision. It's a user experience issue, that's all.

OK. I understand. I'm sure VG will see this and respond to your concerns and if there's anything that can be done. Thanks for the feedback.

I see the the text box is now smaller so that I can see both buttons on the screen at the same time. Thanks for the quick response, forum manager! I think this will work.

I've never used the blue button but I can understand your concerns. To me, the blue button is useless because all it does is activates the cursor in the Quick Reply box (I always just click inside the box myself). Getting rid of it wouldn't bother me but anyone used to using it may find that change annoying.

The smaller Quick Reply box has solved your problem fortunately but one of the behaviors on SBF is it "remembers" your QR box size. If you resize the box in any thread, it will be that size in all threads unless you change it. Other vB sites don't necessarily behave this way so it's all in the setup.

As long as this is now working for you we'll probably leave it alone but that's VG's decision. With a quick adjustment to the CSS, that blue button can be grayed out but depending on how many buttons are controlled by that particular style setting, it might cascade into buttons that are best left blue. Thanks for bring up the issue though. If it was a problem for you there's a good chance others experienced it too. It's very frustrating to lose a post (or other types of content) and I've had it happen all too often in many different situations.

BTW, if you like keyboard shortcuts, use Alt + S keys together and it will post without clicking.

Ah, you're right. And my text box is back to being big.

Okay I do prefer hotkeys (being a touch typist and all). I'll try to remember the Alt-S to save. I got out of the habit from using too many different forums that didn't support it.
