Is anyone here in the apparel business?
I was wondering what the average retail markup is for clothes.

I've seen 250% is the norm.

Is the same across the board or are Men's and Women's apparel different?

Can anyone enlighten me?

Thanks

Your markup is dependent on your processes.
Are you silk screening? DTG Printing? Sublimating? cutting shirt vinyl?
Also mark up depends on quantity.

Buying at a set price per item, wholesale.

200-300% has been my observation. I haven't noticed so much that it varies by women or mens - but more that it varies by department (higher mark up on accessories than garments) and the store level (less in discount stores, higher in boutiques and specialty retailers)

I agree with Patrysha. most mark ups use the 1/3 model. 1/3 for labor, 1/3 for expenses, 1/3 for gross profit. so it would be 300%
