Tracking referrals?

Hello everyone. I'm curious what you use/how you currently track referrals? Excel, online app, etc? Thanks!

Figuring out how to track referrals is one of the reasons we haven't started a referral program yet. It can get complicated pretty fast. I don't think we would use Excel. I'd prefer the tracking be automated.

One of the referral companies we've been looking at is Referral Candy. Don't know much about them, but prompting and tracking referrals seems to be what they do.

If your just starting out I don't think you should invest in any paid tools yet until you've atleast gotten your feet wet and gotten into it a ways. I feel a solid month of doing it manually is a good enough time to get yourself familiar with the whole system and better equips you with the knowledge of whats going on and how everything comes together, what better way to get an understanding of how everything works?
