NASA put together a video visualizing the ocean's currents. I found it via this article, Better Than A Van Gogh: NASA Visualizes All The World’s Ocean Currents (http://www.fastcodesign.com/1669361/better-than-a-van-gogh-nasa-visualizes-all-the-worlds-ocean-currents). The Van Gogh reference should be obvious once you watch the video and assuming you've ever seen any Van Gogh's later paintings. Think the brush strokes in Starry Night.

If you want to see the full version of the video (http://svs.gsfc.nasa.gov/vis/a000000/a003800/a003827/), it's on NASA's site. Links to videos and images are along the right.

It's pretty cool to see the patterns of currents around the world. Makes you think twice about sailing certain parts of the world. Interesting to see places where the current seems relative calm and other areas where it's so active.

That was so cool! It's hard to remember that the earth if covered by so much ocean since all we see most of the time is land.

You need to study your art more. It's the Van Gogh brush stroke. Check Starry Night (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Starry_Night).

I had that same thought at certain parts of the video. There are points where all you see is ocean and no land. Seeing the parts of the world where the currents were calm and turbulent was also pretty cool.
