I talk about WordPress a lot and it is my favorite blogging platform, but that doesn't mean it's the only platform out there.
Google has been providing free blogs on Blogger (http://www.blogger.com/home) for years and it's a very easy way to set one up and test the waters if you're thinking about blogging, but not sure if it's for you.
I just came across this article on some of the pros of using Blogger (http://michaelmartine.com/2008/08/06/is-blogger-really-that-bad/) and thought some of you might be interested.
WordPress.com (http://www.wordpress.com) also offers a free blogging service where you sign up and immediately start blogging.
I still prefer hosting your own version of WordPress since it gives you more options for customization than either blogger or WordPress.com (WordPress has two ways to get a blog), but both of the above options are good if you're just testing the waters.
