Is it legal for a business to use the address of a vacant house they do not own or live in or plan to do business from.

Yeah I have to ask the same. Seriously?

I have no idea whether it's legal or not. My guess is you aren't allowed to do it for business or personal use. Legal or not it's hard to think you'd have any kind of legit reason for doing so.

Google maps if you are working out of your house and trying to look bigger is a legit reason for doing that. To my knowledge though, I've only had two customers look at google maps for a view of my house and it didn't cost me the order.

Bill that might be a legit reason to use a PO Box, not some abandoned property.

A lot of company's require a physical address to do business with you. If you are trying to look bigger than you a physical could help. Having said that, it hasn't hurt my business so I wouldn't worry about it.

It's like saying needing money is a legit reason to rob a bank.

Look up united states code chapter 63.
I think it would fall under 1342 and 1341. I'm sure they could add 1346, 1344, 1345, and 1348 depending on how far they wanted to push it.

I'm sure with a few more searches I could find more.

I was replying to VG's post as to why you would need one not the legalities or justifying the use of someone else s property (address).

I understand - I was just pointing out having a legitimate need does justify all actions that will satisfy that need. I knew you weren't in favor of such a silly idea.

Bill my point was that regardless of whether or not you think you need a physical address using an abandoned property is never appropriate.

In that case I agree with you and also suspect that it may actually be illegal.
