I haven't read as many books on copywriting as I should. I tend to pick up a lot online. However I did read and recommend the two books by the Eisenberg brothers:

Persuasive Online Copywriting (http://www.amazon.com/Persuasive-Online-Copywriting-Take-Words/dp/0971476993)
Waiting for Your Cat to Bark (http://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/waiting-for-your-cat-to-bark-bryan-eisenberg/1007699152)

Years ago I read a book called Hot Text (http://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/hot-text-lisa-price/1004815423?ean=9780735711518&itm=1&usri=hot%2btext), which is specifically about writing for the web. It's been such a long time since I read it that I honestly can't remember much specifically about it. It usually gets good reviews.

I have some of the classic copywriting texts on my list of books to read, but I haven't yet bought and read them. I do have and have read many books on creative writing and some of the advice in them applies to copywriting as well.

I agree that Maria Veloso's book is very good, and it goes beyond copywriting. Click on the links in my signature to see some copy I wrote, based on her techniques.

You'll notice it starts out as tips,
building the perception of customer need
then at bottom our company provides the solution you need.

That's her formula, and I think it's a good one

My favorite is Make Your Content PREsell! (http://mycps.sitesell.com/)

It shows how to write to create warm, willing to buy customers who convert to sales, as opposed to hitting people with sales copy that they frequently avoid or jump over.

Is it your favorite because you work for the guy who wrote it?

Hi guys,
Newbie in the forum here.

I like " Ogilvy on Advertising" by David Ogilvy, "Words That Sell" by Richard Bayan, "The Copywriter's Handbook" by Bob Bly (almost like a bible), and "Hypnotic Writing: How to Seduce and Persuade Customers with Only Your Words" by Joe Vitale

Now that I write more for the web I get good info from Bob Bly's newsletter and Nick Usborne's site.

Good luck!

Nothing relevant to ad. This just made me laugh.

If we're talking about copywriting for traditional advertising, check out the Communications Arts advertising annuals. It's mostly print (although they have some TV and web stuff). Sometimes the best way to learn about copywriting is to check out some really great work.

Copyhacker.com has great content (I know its not a book). They (she) has ebooks, but so far I have only sampled the free content. Some of her pearls are worth the price of a book. For example, study Amazon.com reviews to get your copy or words for your copy. This IS Brilliant.

I recommend Advertising Secrets of the Written Word by Joseph Sugarman.

He does a great job of getting basic copywriting concepts across in an enjoyable way. This is also suitable for new copywriters or those who are planning to start copywriting.
