Google recently released a new tool that looks interesting and could potentially help you gather information about what people are searching for in your industry and in your specific location and over recent time frames.

It's called Google Insights for Search (http://www.google.com/insights/search/#) and like most Google tools it's still in beta, which means it's done, but in a web 2.0 way.

It looks like something that can help with market research and identifying trends in search phrases. Definitely worth checking out.

I saw a release about this today. Didn't really delve into it, but it sounded interesting.

It's a good way to understand different markets. It looks like a more featured Google Trends, or maybe something similar with different features.

You can compare different search phrases to see which is gaining and which is losing popularity. You can look at other phrases to see if they have seasonal spikes in searches. You can see what people in specific areas around the world are searching for.

It's not a keyword tool in the sense of delivering specific numbers on queries, but it's a tool that can help you better understand the market and the bigger picture about your market.

I found a pretty good article on SEO Book about some of the ways you can use Google Insights (http://www.seobook.com/google-insights-search) and thought I'd share.
