Hi everyone,

I decided to add images to my website and wanted to know if they add to the content, if they are placed correctly and in general what your opinions are of the new look of my website. I cannot add alt tags to these images, it's not availabe with this site builder.

I still have not changed the content, still thinking on how I want to word things.

And please, once again, be critical, it helps.

Thanks,

Adding images in a good idea. There are a few issues though.

First, what is the big red box on the lefthand side of the logo for? As I looked at the site it was right in my eyeline, and it does nothing. I would either get rid of it, or extend the logo so it goes all the way to the bottom of the yellow area.

Second, you need to work on your spacing. I think it's great that your putting in your social media icons, but right now they're not working correctly. I'm viewing in Firefox 3.6.12 and there's a table with your Facebook icon in it and then your Linkedin icon is hanging off in space by itself.

I do like your choice of pictures, but it would be nice to see them without the black frame around them.

I think it's great that you're trying new things. Keep working at this, you're making progress.

I am seeing the same thing as Kristine. There seems to be a lot of table coding throughout and it seems to be throwing off the spacing and dimensions across the top. An easier way to space your icons would be to use simple HTML, not tables, and set margins to space them. Something like:

<img class="alignleft size-full wp-image-2562" style="margin-left: 2px; margin-right: 2px;" title="1rss-basic-webtreats" src="http://1stinternetmedia.com/wp-content/uploads/1rss-basic-webtreats.png" alt="" width="56" height="56" /><img class="alignleft size-full wp-image-2563" style="margin-left: 2px; margin-right: 2px;" title="1twitter-webtreats" src="http://1stinternetmedia.com/wp-content/uploads/1twitter-webtreats.png" alt="" width="56" height="56" />

If you need to place them left or right on the page you can use DIV positioning to put them where you want. Something like:

<div style="padding-left: 200px;">PLACE ICONS HERE</div>
and then you wont get browser problems with table spacing since most people don't use them anymore.
Tables have a tendency to bloat everything and it is wasted time coding that you don't have to do anymore.

I also noticed that your headlines seem to be different colors and the "Payroll" heading seems to be mispaced to appear next to the previous image, instead of below it as a bullet point for the next area.

A little tip on Social Networking icons, they should match. You can download free icons in sets from many different places on the web. Here is an example if the first site I found searching "Free Social Icons":
41 Amazing Free Social Icon Sets for Designers (http://www.socialh.com/2010/01/41-amazing-free-social-icon-sets-for.html)
Just about every set will have Facebook, Twitter, Linked In and RSS icons.

I agree that images help tremendously to break up the text. You just need to fine tune some style.
For the purposes of that page layout, I'd probably make all of the images the same size, and place them on the same side with the same spacing dimensions.

Just a thought.

Jo Ellen, Your site now looks more open, and if that is what you were after, you have succeeded. To me, though, it is not as businesslike as it was before. That would lead to me feeling less confident that you would be the bookkeeper I wanted to hire.

Let me point to a couple of things that I noticed. Previously, the top paragraph stood out from the main body of text. Was it slightly larger font? Was the line spacing a little wider? Now it looks like the same font and spacing, and I think you have lost something, there.

The sub-headings, for me, break up the body and make your main section disjointed. The smooth top-to-bottom flow that was apparent before, and made for easy reading, has been lost.

If you are going to use sub-headings, may I suggest that you keep the line-space above all sub-heading consistent.

If you agree with me about it appearing disjointed, you could try in-line sub-headings - like this

Payroll - Payroll can be a daunting task. Your company needs....

That might give you the sub-headings you want but make the whole section more cohesive. I think the addition of the several small pictures add to the disjointedness. But I do like the way the pictures are of a type - same colors, similar size.

I've made more changes, changed the header image again, there aren't many to choose from that look good. I've used that link to the social buttons from Eborg and found the ones I wanted and finally got them to work correctly. It was hard. I also tried to make the images as close to the same size as possible and finally got the lines removed. They are still in a table, but according to the support that is the only way to add images and text on the same line. I have been reading a lot of the support to try and figure out how to do all this stuff and some I don't understand. I did read that alt tags can be added but I haven't done it yet. I don't have time, I'm having company tomorrow and I haven't even started cleaning my house. I also changed my content. And I added my affiliations at the top of the page so when people land on my page they will know that I am expert in QuickBooks and am a member of an association affiliated with my expertise.

Thanks and once again - Happy Thanksgiving!

Much better on the icons and certification logos! Looks like you are able to change the background color where the logo is. Next time you mess around with it, I'd just go ahead and make it match the background of the logo (#ffffff)...but that may wash it out too. I guess you have to play with it to see what looks best.

Yep, it's challenging at first when you need to little HTML to get things right, but it gets easier and you get better. And the better you get and more you learn, the more stuff you want to do.
It is satisfying when you get something to look the way you want.

Have a good Thanksgiving !
