We covered the bases in another thread about the importance of incorporating SEO at the beginning of any website development project.

So what about when that hasn't happened, and somebody else has developed the website, and now the client comes to you for SEO work. What do you include in the proposal?

Depends on the client. Depends on the SEO and what services they offer. Ultimately SEO is a process that never really ends. Optimization is all about making your current situation better and no matter what the current conditions something can always be improved.

With an existing site you'd still really do the same things you would prior to developing the site. The difference is mainly that you're going to have to redo some things. It's either a duplication in time or cost.

I started a thread here with some basic ideas on the seo process (http://www.small-business-forum.net/search-engine-optimization/7-how-approach-search-engine-optimization.html). It's certainly not all inclusive, but it gives the general idea.

Keyword research
Developing search friendly code and site structure
On-Page seo
Link building

Rinse and repeat

The rinse and repeat part is important. You see where you are, decide what you want to improve and go through the steps in the process necessary for gettng there. Then you again take stock of where you are and go through the process again.
