Is anyone familiar with good photography forums? I have a client who's looking for people to locate a creative photo (& add a clever caption). He's doing this as a contest at Prova, and he wants up to 100 winners (he's paying up to $10,000). (Here's an example .jpg (http://www.prova.fm/advertising/images-prova/articles/noodle_ad1.jpg). It's pretty clever)

The entries can just be photos found on stock sites like istockphoto, but I would still like to give photographers a chance to get involved. He's only running the contest for a week, so I'd like to find a good way to inform the photography communities.

Does anyone have a good suggestion, location? Is anyone already involved in a photography forum?

Thanks,
-David

When I was working closely with my photography client a few years back, there was the I love photography forum. It's a mix of amateurs and professionals, and most are fine art/natural light people photographers and not geared towards commercial photographers though there were some there. Not sure if you will find who you need there, but worth a shot.

I am a member of a photoshop forum that I rarely go to, but sounds like something they would be interested in Photochopz.com – The Best Photoshop Tutorials on the Net (http://www.photochopz.com/) and I think V7N has a photographers section that's pretty active.

Thanks, I'll check out both sites. I'm not a member there, so any suggestions on how to provide them the info without being spam?
:)

Thank you,
-David

Nope, I never actively marketed to them...I mostly read the forum for ways I could improve the generalized marketing tactics I already knew geared towards fine art photography that my client wanted (and still wants too...I originally worked for her around 7 years ago and she's now updating some of the original marketing materials like price lists and package descriptions) to provide in her (our at the time, I've moved 3 times since then) small (fairly rural and remote) area. In any case, the only way I know to market directly to them is to pay for it...there's no free way to squeeze in without at least posing as an amateur photographer and putting the time in to post questions and provide responses. No real shortcuts outside of the paid one.

It's tough to register new and do a drive by, but I think both forums have a "contest" section. You have to register to post though..that's universal.

Are you familiar with Photo contest forums? I don't want to "tread on their feet," & I can't tell if they're open to outside contests or not. I've been studying them for the last hour. Posted 2 notes in introductions sections. Hopefully I don't get flamed :0

It even feels like a drive by.

I dropped a note in the photochopz forum. They seem pretty cool there. I think the admin likes it.
I couldn't bring myself to mention it in the ilovephotography forum. Their mission is to help photographers of children & families get better. It wouldn't just been spam. My problem, is I'll spend hours researching & reading forums before posting 1 message. Probably not time well spent, but I just don't want to be a spammer. I always get irked by the spammer who throws out links 1,000 times faster than me. I think it probably works, but I just can't do it.
I found 2 other forums where I added a note in the welcome section. Asking if their community would be interested in it. 1 other forum seems interested.

Thanks for the info.

You can try Digital Photography School (http://digital-photography-school.com/). Its Darren Rowse's (of Problogger fames) site and there is a forum on the site. Darren himself is much more approachable than you might think. Perhaps getting in touch with him directly via email or the forum and letting him know about the contest.
