I am not sure this is the place to ask, but i can't find anywhere else

i live in Spain and want to set up a small business
the turnover will be low initially
so i do not expect to have to register for VAT (IVA)

in the UK the threshold is 70,000
but i do not know the threshold in Spain
can anyone help?

thanks
Mike

Being in the U.S., I won't even pretend to know what you are talking about, but based on what you put down, I found this article that is pretty recent concerning VAT (IVA) updated in Jan 2010.

Invoicing to and from Spain - new VAT rules
Invoicing to and from Spain - new VAT rules (http://www.advoco.es/services/47-invoicing-to-and-from-spain-new-vat-rules.html)

Looks like a good spot to get more info on the subject as well.

Thanks eborg9
not quite what i wanted but
up the right street anyway
as i shall be doing cross border transactions

VAT is similar to Sales Tax in the States
my beef is that in the uk we have a threshold
that is to say anyone trading under say 70,000 a year
does not need to register
and cannot reclaim vat on goods bought
that gets loads small one-man band companies off the register
and saves the inland revenue time processing little companies
however, in spain
the threshold is Zero!
every man and his dog has to register

qué fuerte! (what a hassle)

Sorry I couldn't help more. I'm not sure if we have any other active members from Spain around here that may know something about it.
