A couple of months ago I started and stalled on my Crazy Dog website - I'm working on it again, but in the meantime decided that it wouldn't hurt anything to have a Facebook fan page.

Here it is (http://www.facebook.com/pages/Kansas-City-Metro/Crazy-Dog-Creative/111150512248538?v=info&ref=sgm)... I'm interested in what you think about the "about me" verbiage on the info page - I figure I'll transfer most of that over to my website as I get it up and rolling.

Other things to do... add some pictures of my work into a photo album and start talking about marketing so that there is some value to this page to people I connect with.

It's a good start, but you are going to have to get a little more creative with it, after all, you are a graphic designer.

For Facebook pages there are apps that you can add that will let you make HTML pages, even title them so that they show up in your tabs with your custom heading or label. I think they are called FBML boxes (Facebook Mark Up Language).

The About Me section that they provide is a decent option, but you don't have to rely on that to be your only bio, or description of your services.
You can basically do anything you want as far as HTML goes. Even add multimedia like sideshows and video.

I would suggest putting together a custom Welcome page for your Fan page and setting your options to make it your landing page so it's the first thing people see.

Particularly if it is your only web identity at the moment,

Also, I would put information on your profile photo like contact info, at least a phone number. Those profile photos can be twice or even 3 times that length, so you can really customize that area. It doesn't have to be just a simple photo or logo.

Another thing (once you start to get it customized), is to remove inactive tabs. If you aren't doing any reviews, or don't have any discussions going or planned, then remove those tabs and replace them with something else, maybe another custom page.

Ah Harold - I am a graphic designer, but one with basically no web savvyness... but, I will overcome that professional hurdle. I know print inside and out - paper, coatings, spot vs cmyk, how to tri-fold and plan for die-cutting, variable data and how to draw the eye to the important part of your message - so surely I can apply myself and learn all about html, seo and flash - right?

Thanks for the suggestions - I'll be getting on those immediately.

I'm sorry that was absolutely presumptuous of me.I wasn't thinking.

O.K. what you can do is make yourself a big brochure for your page.
I never got the dimensions exact, but this page's (http://www.facebook.com/HaroldMansfield?v=app_19540106280) area is 730x970. Obviously the width is important, the length can be anything you want it to be.

So even without any HTML knowledge you can still make yourself a custom page.

Using one of the HTML apps (that particular one is called "Profile Box"), all you have to do is insert the image.

So you would simply add this:

<img src="http://xxx.xxxxx/x/xxx">

With this http://xxx.xxxxx/x/xxx , the URL between the quotes, being the URL of where your image is located.

"But wait, what do you mean 'where my image is located'? I told you I don't have a website yet, so I don't have anything hosted anywhere to even upload an image."

Well, in that case, you can open an account with one of the free image hosting services and upload your file there. Then you will have your image hosted and an address (or path) to call it from to be displayed on your page.

I just remembered that you have a Page. There are more HTML apps for pages. You can use the FBML Box app and title your page tab.

A man with a sense of humor, definitely my kind of guy :)

I do know about free image hosting - so maybe I'm not the complete web idiot I feel like sometimes!

Seriously - thanks for the help, I'll be working on this frantically in between programs for the local women's expo and marketing materials for the interior designer who woke up on her 50th birthday, decided that she hated the name of her business and is totally re-doing her look/name/focus, taking pictures at the local kite festival and writing about the new mayor whose favorite pastime is taking grocery store carts from dumpsters, and cussing out policemen and the publisher of the local paper when they find out about it... oh and there are dirty diapers, gourmet meals and laundry to be done too. Never a dull moment!

Done goofing off for now... must get back to work!
