Hello recently I stumbled upon an opportunity to transport small orders of refrigerators for mid-sized businesses who are ordering more than one at a time. (think refrigerators like would be in your household kitchen) but they're being installed in offices or facilities. It's b2b. On average, we will be shipping between 5-15 refrigerators per load and am trying to figure out what kind of truck to lease or buy in order to facilitate efficient transfer. I admit that we used a uhaul for the first few loads before we realized this would be an actual business we would pursue. What kind of truck do you think would work?

Hmmm... There's a few ways you could go here! :)

Box Trucks: These trucks have a separate cargo area on the back and can be an excellent choice for carrying multiple refrigerators. They are available in different sizes, and a 16-26 foot box truck should be sufficient for your needs. Make sure to consider the payload capacity, which should be adequate to handle the total weight of the refrigerators.

Flatbed Trucks: Flatbed trucks provide an open platform that can accommodate various sizes of refrigerators. They allow for easy loading and unloading but may require additional protection for the appliances during transit, such as tarps or covers.

Straight Trucks: Also known as cube trucks or cube vans, straight trucks have a cargo area that is directly connected to the cab. They come in various sizes and payload capacities, making them suitable for carrying multiple refrigerators.

Truck and Trailer Combinations: Depending on the size of your delivery operations, you could also consider using a pickup truck with an enclosed cargo trailer. This option allows for flexibility in managing loads and can be more fuel-efficient when smaller deliveries are needed.

Remember to factor in additional costs, such as insurance, fuel, maintenance, etc.

Hope that helps!

The price of a box truck can vary based on factors such as make, model, year, mileage, condition, and location. However, a good price for a used box truck typically falls between $3,000 and $20,000.

A small or medium-sized box truck with a lift gate would be the best option for transporting 5-15 refrigerators per load. Look for a 16-20 foot truck with an appropriate weight capacity, such as the Ford Transit, Mercedes-Benz Sprinter, or GMC Savana. Leasing a truck may be more cost-effective and flexible for your business.
