So I was wondering what makes clients decide to hire someone to design and develope their website for them.

Any opinions and thoughts are welcome.

The biggest one that most new technology-based one-man shops miss is this: they know you exist and can do the type of job they want done.

If you don't get over that wall, they never see you, you don't get the job.

After that, it's a whole host of things, depending on the type of client, the specifics of the job, whether they can trust that you do the job, whether you make it easy to let them trust you to do the job, price of the job vs the value the client perceives the work involved and the results to be gained, and so on.

That's a huge question with a million answers. All freelancers aren't the same and neither are clients needs.

Work on your skills, professionalism, customer service, make our rates competitive, and have a marketing plan to attract your target market and convert them into paying customers.

As you go you'll lean into the curve and discover what people are looking for specific to what you're offering, and adjust your targeting to attract them.
