I know you don't see them much anyone, but is it worth doing advertising on magnets?

I understand some business like plumbing would do better with this type of advertising, but I'm wondering if it can be used for everyone?

They do say "any advertising is good advertising", or is this really just a waste of money, and I should look at other things.

A newbie really looking for advise on this one.

TIA

It really depends on what you're marketing, what your goals are and what other marketing tactics you are using. Magnets are a useful tool at trade fairs & other live events and make a nice freebie to add to bags at retail outlets...but you have to go back to what the purpose is to decide whether it's will provide the return on investment you need to be a successful tactic.

Not sure if magnets would be good if you're selling lingerie. Who's your target market, women??

Maybe you want to advertise in men magazines... so husbands and boyfriends can buy their women sexy lingerie...

i give them to every customer (im a plumber)....they are worth it for me....on repeat customers i see them on 25-33% of the refrigerators

the big trick is to make yours different enough that it stands out in 1 second or less...i can spot mine on a fridge instantly in a sea of other magnets

any business that has to do with service should hand out magnets

If you are selling lingerie, as your name indicates, I don't see magnets as being your best selling tactic. Magnets do work well for restaurants and plumbers (as Huggy indicates) and things like that, but selling lingerie is an entirely different ball game. I'd say, for your market, magnets would be a waste of money.

Hmm... bclingerie, I don't think magnet is right for your business. David Hunter's idea is good - to advertise in men magazine. Or may be you can try advertise on dating websites (couples may wanna buy), or hand out discount vouchers (with a deadline to increase urgency to purchase), or may be coasters with your QR code and ask permission to put them in the bar? :)

Agreed. Magnets as an advertising tool are most effective, IMO, if you have a phone number you want people to call, so they normally work best for service-oriented businesses, like plumbers (as huggytree noted) or lawn care pros and so forth.

If you really want to get magnets done for a show/conference, I'd make them something people can laugh about. What I mean is doing a magnet in the shape of a teddy or other piece of lingerie with a funny/provocative and make something people will talk about. Who knows, it might go viral and give you some backlinks.

There are a bunch of companies who can do magnets like this. Here's just a quick sampling:
Custom Shape Die-Cut Magnets (http://www.fridgedoor.com/cusflatmag.html)
Custom Magnets (http://www.magnetstreet.com/splash/market/0/kc/custom-magnet/kn/custom-magnets)
Custom Die Cut Magnets | High Quality Magnet Printing (http://www.bluebeeprinting.com/diecut-magnets/)

4-Color Process Magnets: No. 3301: Custom Digitally Printed Magnets: Wholesale Magnets (http://www.stouse.com/Products/Magnets/Custom4CPMagnets.html)

Good luck!

I agree that whether magnets are a good idea depends on the business. I personally would only keep magnets given by businesses that I might actually call (I think someone else referred to this same idea in a previous reply). Anything else would probably end up in the my trash can. Just my 2 cents.
