Found a few recommended Twitter tools via TwiTip (http://www.twitip.com/10-twitter-tools-that-help-you-work-smarter/). I highly recommend TweetDeck and I use a couple others on the list as well.

Many of the tools are new to me, but they all look pretty useful. If you're interested in learning more about Twitter, TwiTip is a good blog to follow. Darren Rowse, of ProBlogger fame, is the person behind TwiTip and the quality is what you would expect from Darren.

Have any tools you can recommend?

I saw two tools that I really liked for future use Quitter and TwitterBeep.

I have been using Ping.fm for quite a while now, and its awesome.

I signed up for Quitter right away. It's one of the tools I hadn't been using. TweetDeck kind of has the ability of TwitBeep built into it. You won't get the email alert, but you can still search any term and have those tweets mentioning the term in a separate window to track.

Hmm, I'll have to check these tools out. I need to take a look at Twhirl since I manage multiple Twitter accounts.

I found another good tool from PollDaddy called Twitter Polls (http://twitter.polldaddy.com/). Looks like an easy way to ask your followers survey questions.

Steven, thats funny. I just used Poll Daddy in a poll today!

I found Mr. Tweet (http://twitter.com/MrTweet) he is suppose to DM you people you should follow. Based on certain aspects of people you friend.

I havent used it yet, it takes a few hours for everything to kick in. I will update when it gets going.

I only use Tweetlater.com (http://www.tweetlater.com/) for automating my twitter

Looks like an interesting tool. I turned it into a link by the way to make it easier for anyone reading.

I'm not sure if I'd automate everything, but some things make sense. The auto thank you is interesting and scheduling certain tweets can also make a lot of sense.

This would be good to auto schedule a tweet against a new post on your blog. It would mean that you dont have to really be paying huge attention to tweet your latest post. However automating to much and not taking the time to personalize things and really connect with your followers can be detrimental.

Agreed. Some things are fine to automate, but if all you do is automate you really miss the whole point of Twitter and you'll really miss all the benefits. The point isn't to spam Twitter for links, but to engage with real people using the service.

The other thing that i notice is even with a couple of thousand followers, you dont get a whole lot more response then you get from 50-60. Maybe you get more @ replies, and Direct messages, but click through on links i think is much lower compared to potential viewers of the links.

Probably depends on the links and how you're tweeting them. When I see a link I think is a marketing message I tend not to click. When I see a link that looks interesting to me I do. It doesn't matter how many people I'm following. My clicks are based on their relevance to me.

That is the hard thing to figure out. I guess a lot of it comes down to wording the tweet with the link to catch people's attention.

You can try wording things differently or posting the links at different times of day and see what happens. Could also be a lot of people following you who were more interested in having you follow them back than in really following you. I think there's a lot of that going on lately.

Here's a really dumb question, but I just gave in and starting using twitter and I can't for the life of me figure out what I use for a link to put on my sites that people can click on to follow me.

Should just be twitter.com/ and then your username. The link to my profile is http: // twitter.com/vangogh I'm not sure if there's a way they can follow directly through your site. I think the visit to Twitter is necessary.

People will have to click on the follow button on your profile to follow you. In Twitter anytime you see your username it should also be a link to your profile. Also if you search a little lots of people have tutorials for tweeting the URL of a given page and have created all sorts of images you can use inside any Twitter link.
