...it came from a "hallmark.com" email address. A legitimate e-card from Hallmark has the SENDER'S email address as the Sender ID.

I got two such phony e-cards yesterday, which is what prompted me to look up Hallmark Cards | Free Ecards, Greeting Cards, Birthday Gifts, Gold Crown Stores, Keepsake Ornaments - Hallmark Cards (http://www.hallmark.com) and make this post.

Another giveaway: the cards had a link to a URL that ended in ".gif.exe"

Guess it's the latest in spam or phishing or whatever the intent.

Ya, I've had a few of the Hallmark ones recently.

Had an interesting spam email last week in that it had to be hand entered in that someone went to my site an sent an rfq directly with an image virus attached. Came from China. I don't see any way this one could have been auto generated.

I've also been getting spam that could only have been created/sent by a human.

I guess enough people are opening spam emails to make it financially worthwhile for the senders.

Look at it this way, if they are getting a sell through rate of something like 1 in 100,000 and sending out in some simple method, 100,000,000 emails, this is a click through rate of about 10,000 potential customers. even at a $10 sales, This could potentially net them $100K +.

I've seen these fake Hallmark card e-mails too. It's amazing what the spammers can get into and exploit. Kind of sad when you think about it.

Also, the last few days or a week I've been getting virus infected emails from UPS saying the attachment is tracking info. Don't open these if you get them. My antivirus is deleting them so I don't know exactly what the attachment looks like.

Fake emails from the IRS are also used to carry viruses, particularly at this time of year.

So if you don't get screwed by the real IRS, you may be screwed with a virus from the "IRS". :)

Common note: Do not open any attachment from emails you do not know, even if its from the president.

But if the president sends me something it has to be legit. How about Nigerian princes? Surely it's ok if they're royalty. :)
