Someone asked me today if I designed websites using HTML 8 so that it is retina ready. I am of course aware of retina displays and compatibility, but I have never heard of HTML 8.
Last time I checked HTML 5 was just getting standardized, moving to 5.1 and 5.2 by 2016.

Where did she get HTML 8 from?

Probably just screwed up. Just go with "yes". Or waste time educating her :)

Either that or it's a proprietary code known only to Windows 8.

Just tell them that costs extra.

My goodness, have you guys been asleep for the past several months. Wake up rip-van-Winkle. I can understand not fully understand HTML 8, it is new. But, you completely missed HTML 6 & 7. How can you call yourselves programmers if you don't keep up. I strongly suggest you take a crash course in the subdermal sensors, inter-optical UI and direct cortical connections now available in version 8. LEARN IT NOW OR FALL BEHIND. I hear version 9 is already in the works and will be released within before next spring.

I heard Microsoft pulled back HTML 8.1 because it was broken.

No, that was Apples big update. It had a bunch a nice features but they decided to deprecate if/then statements.

Sometimes I think people just throw out BS like that, just to see if you are going to try and BS them, or if you really know what you are talking about.

And other times I think THEY THINK they know what they are talking about and are just very misinformed.

The problem is I can never tell the difference. Are they really smart? Or really dumb?

Are they really smart? Or really dumb?

Which is why I try to sound like the smartest person in the room about those topics which I'm supposed to be smarter than the client. And not worry if the client insists they're smarter than me about those topics, because that's my first clue about the person's unsuitability as a client.

Think of it as a Turing test. :)

Maybe they read about "Using Robohelp HTML 8"... http://help.adobe.com/en_US/RoboHelp/8.0/RoboHTML/robohtml_8_help.pdf (big PDF)

Are they really smart? Or really dumb?
Most likely it is neither. They could have just mis-spoken. Their son 8 year birthday could be next week and they were thinking of that and the wire got crossed.

Or they were thinking about Windows 8 when talking about html. Lots of possibilities. I wouldn't read too much into it.
