we are thinking this will be a smaller event than our other 4....but worth a try for sure....

I just heard about this thing. After reading their website, I started asking around about it and it seems that a lot of people are participating and love it. Does anyone know any businesses that have used it? I can't figure out what their fees are - I'm curious about that too.

If you haven't heard about it, you might want to check it out. According to their website, a local business makes a very generous offer in the form of a coupon and they send it out via e-mail to their members. Nobody gets the deal, unless some certain min. is reached so everyone is motivated to e-mail it to their friends etc. It seems too good to be true from both the business point of view (Generating lots of new customers) and even the consumer side (the offers are usually 50% off or more). A recent one was that if you paid $25 - you got a $50 certificate at the Gap.

Anyone have experience with this on either side?

How to Disable Facebook Places

Some of you may have seen that Facebook now has something called Places. Basically it's a way for you to check in to a specific place and let your friends know you're there. Some may like the services and others may not.

The default settings are for your friends to see when you "check in" to various places. Not a big deal unless you choose friends poorly. However defaults are also set to allow friends to check you in to places (whether you're actually there or not) and to allow applications your friends use to share data about you.

For those of you who prefer not to have your physical location shared this article from Lifehacker shows you how to disable Facebook places or at least make the settings a bit more private.

Just out of curiosity how many like the idea of sharing your physical location? Facebook is hardly the only site/application doing this. It's something many companies want to know and expect to make money from in the years ahead.

Personally I have no interest in sharing that information. If I want you to know where I am, I'll tell you I'm heading there before I go. If I don't tell you then I probably don't want you to know where I am. I know a lot of people like being able to share this kind of information and I can understand their reasons so I'm not knocking anyone for liking this kind of service. More curious if you do and why.

If you don't know yet, Facebook has changed the dimensions of the custom FBML pages from 720px wide to (I think) 520px.

It's a pain in the butt, especially if you have a lot of graphics, but if you haven't updated your dimensions, your pages are likely all cut off and looks weird now.

i got a new laptop with the new windows in it.....we have about 4 email addresses....in the old windows they all merged together, just by time ....in the new windows they come in merged but also seperately , under each address....and if i look at one it dissappears from the main place they enter and is there only in the seperate lists........so if i have to look at something the second time, to reply or whatever, i have to remember which email name it came to....its driving me crazy and dh cant find a fix for it....
also if i want to check if i sent something or if it went thru i have to remember which email it was in.....they are all about the same so the guessing is hard....and its a big hassle...
its a very bulky and time wasting process....any hints on this? thanks

Marketing Consultant - Evaluating

I have a meeting scheduled this weekend with a marketing consultant and I’m looking for some guidance as to what I should be looking for and...

I have a meeting scheduled this weekend with a marketing consultant and I’m looking for some guidance as to what I should be looking for and questions to ask.

First a little background. Our company leads small group travel to Italy. Our groups are about 10 people in size and the trips are centered around a theme such are food and wine, classic car races, girls getaways, opera, etc. So far most of our clients have come from word of mouth advertising and we’re very happy with how the business has grown. We have also done a little advertising in newsletters with some success and we also have our own email newsletter that keeps growing.

We feel we need some professional help to help us take the next step to increase our customer base. We’ve located a consultant that previously worked in the marketing department of a company similar to ours (but bigger) but which focuses on cycling tours, something we don’t. The business model is the same. We feel that his previous experience might make him more qualified to assist us over a general marketing firm.

Since we’ve never worked with a marketing consultant what should we be asking him? What should we be looking for so that we aren’t just sold a bunch of BS? How do we evaluate him?

Any input would be appreciated.

Thanks
Doug
