Hi everyone.

I am currently working on a file organisation product for Windows platforms.

I wanted to ask the community if anyone has any experience with tagging techniques and technologies that are more sophisticated than tools like Windows Live Photo Gallery.

What have you used? how good are they? What are their pro's and con's?

Any dialogue in this area would be appreciated.

you might consider looking at this? Tabbles | Document Management Software, File Tagging (http://tabbles.net/)
Are you programming it yourself? I've written document management system that just references the file on the disk and stores metadata in a database. Another good way (which is what the doc manage side of my business admin tool (http://www.camisonline.net)uses) is to use SQL Server 2008's remote blob. This way you get all the wonders of using SQL to query files, but none of the headache of storing files as BLOBS in a database.

I guess a lot depends on your requirements to tag files and if you need the tags to be internal to the file itself.

Thx for the reply Neil.

Yes indeed I was already aware of this product. While I think it is cute, we aim to create a much more powerful tool. However I would be interested in the technologies they used to create Tabbles. I doubt they will be forth coming if I ask however! :)
