Happy Canada Day all. For those of us outside Canada who may not know what the holiday is about here's the link to the Wikipedia Page (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canada_Day).

It's Nation Birthday weekend.

I had to be careful not to say happy Dominion Day (showing my age, I fear). I was surprised when I looked at that Wikipedia article to see that it has been almost 30 years since the name of the holiday was changed.

Also, Canada is welcoming Prince William and the new Duchess of Cambridge this week on their first state trip outside of Great Britain since their wedding in April. Canada even issued a third Royal Wedding stamp (http://www.stampcollectinginformation.com/stamp-collecting-news/canada-issues-third-stamp-in-royal-wedding-collection/) to coincide with the Royal couple's Canadian visit.

At least you knew Dominion Day. It's more than I can say. I knew Canada is a birthday celebration like the 4th of July, but can't say I knew much more. The Wikipedia link is for me as much as anyone.

Cool that royalty will be there to celebrate. Or are they just coming to see themselves on the new stamp?

I think they have probably seen themselves on plenty of postage stamps by now! The Royal Wedding was not only commemorated on stamps in Great Britain (http://www.stampcollectinginformation.com/stamp-collecting-news/royal-wedding-stamps-announced/), but in all of the major Commonwealth countries (such as Australia, New Zealand, and Canada) and many other members of the Commonwealth (Bahamas (http://www.stampcollectinginformation.com/stamp-collecting-news/bahamas-issues-royal-wedding-postage-stamps/), Falkland Islands), as well as other countries around the world.

Do you think they'll use their own commemorative stamps on their "thank you" notes? I wonder what Emily Post (no pun intended) would say about that?

Thank you! I celebrated by sleeping in...followed by a shift at work at the day job...I likely will be asleep by the time the fireworks fly as I have to be up again at 5...

Sleeping in is a good way to celebrate. I'll probably do the same here on Monday. I'm not sure how much fireworks we'll have this year. It's been dry and hot, both bad conditions for fire season. There were 3 small wildfires in the are this past week. There's a limited ban on fireworks through many of the states around here, though I'm sure there will still be fireworks.

And I never noticed! It has been ages since I bought stamps. Everything is email these days. Belated Happy Canada Day!

Yeah, the day job has been kicking my butt lately...5:30am starts (whereas in the normal course of life I'm used to only seeing that time of day from the other side) and double shifts...this is not the way I would prefer to celebrate...missed all the free bands and free cake and sunshine :-( Oh well...next year!

Nope, not the best way to celebrate. Not that I haven't been there myself before. I've had to work many a holiday or birthday in the past.

On the plus side I got to give away a trip to Vegas and tickets to the upcoming MMA event...that was pretty cool. I've decided I like giving things away...it makes people sooo happy...lol

That's something. Good you could enjoy the day even if it did mean having to work.
