Remember when Meerkat was supposed to be the next new hot thing? Then Twitter opened Periscope and immediately killed them.
Now Facebook is in the game and has live streaming and it's open to anyone.

The marketing implications are pretty huge for people who know how to leverage it.
Have decent mobile phone, a plan, some basic skills and some talent and that's all you need. And from what I've seen the talent part is optional.

You can see who in the world is broadcasting live at all times at

Here are instructions on how to do it yourself

I think this is another game changer and opens up access to live streams as well as the ability to live stream to any and everyone.
Probably going to be pretty good for news, sports and entertainment entities too.

What do you guys think?

I just picked a random stream in CA and happened upon a live band in a club. They were rockin'.
I think this could be huge.

It's definitely not my thing. I never used Meerkat and the only thing I watched on Periscope was a series of videos someone made and posted online. I suppose Facebook has a better chance of making this stick. Still pretty sure I won't be in the target market. I don't have interest in live streaming anything to the world or watching what others are live streaming.

Can see several implications in my world for this. Live demos, live instruction videos, lives seminars, it has a lot of potential. Hopefully the livestream function will be used for useful stuff and not people being stupid, but I know that's probably a vain hope. Definitely something I might try down the road.

Ha! Definitely. We already know some people are going to use it for nefarious purposes, spam, porn, and whatever, and then Facebook will have to clamp down in some way with ratings, or categories, or something.
Allowing any and everyone to live stream at will is risky, but I'm glad they put it out there. I'm sure a lot of people and companies will do some awesome things with it.
